Direct Connect
Direct Connect is a connection of any external network infrastructure to the infrastructure within Selectel, built on the basis of the following Selectel products: Dedicated servers, Colocation, Cloud platform, Cloud powered by VMware.
Types of the service:
- Direct Connect — physical port (port to an outside operator);
- Direct Connect — logical port.
Direct Connect — Physical Port
Direct Connect is a service for renting a port on the Selectel access switch. In this case the customer is responsible for establishing connection on the part of the telecom operator (clarifying the possibility of connecting to Selectel, checking the cross-connection, paying for the communication channels, etc.).
Establish the Connection
- Check with your service provider in advance whether it is possible to connect to Selectel.
- From the Control panel, go to the Networks Services ⟶ Direct Connect physical port.
- Click Order.
- Specify the pool.
- Select the physical port — 1 or 10 Gbit/s.
- Click Pay.
- Specify the payment period and make sure you enable the service in the desired pool.
- Click Pay for Service.
- After submitting the order, a corresponding ticket will be created. A Selectel specialist will contact you in this ticket to clarify the details and guide you through the connection process.
- The Selectel access switch will be allocated a port connected to the Selectel global router (formerly L3VPN).
- Check for the cross-connectiom to the dedicated port from the telecom operator or an external network infrastructure.
Disable the Connection
If you no longer need the connection, create a ticket to disable the Direct Connect — physical port service.
Direct Connect — Logical Port
Direct Connect — logical port is a ready solution, connection via a backbone partner operator. Available partner operators are listed when ordering the service in the Control panel.
A pre-configured, reserved connection between Selectel and partner operators is used to establish the connection. The connection has high bandwidth and is only used to enable Selectel Connect services. The network connectivity between the partner infrastructure and Selectel is provided by VLAN allocation, and a Selectel global router (formerly L3VPN) is created within the Selectel infrastructure.
Selectel takes up to three working days to establish the connection.
Establish the Connection
- Rent a communication channel from a partner operator.
- From the Control panel, go to Network services ⟶ Selectel Connect.
- Click Order services.
- Select the Direct Connect — logical port service.
- Click Order.
- Fill in the service order form. Contact your operator for information about junction point and VLAN ID.
- Click Order.
- After submitting the request, a corresponding ticket will be created. Wait for a Selectel specialist to contact you in this ticket to clarify the details and guide you through the connection process.
- Configure the network connectivity in the Control panel of the cloud operator. This is necessary for exchanging routing information and further traffic transfer.
Disable the Connection
If you no longer need the connection, create a ticket to disable the Direct Connect — logical port service. In the ticket, specify the VLAN ID and junction point.
